Human factors and ergonomics involves the study of human abilities and limitations to design systems, organizations, jobs, machines, tools, consumer products, etc., for safe, efficient, and comfortable human use. This course introduces students to the broad field of human factors psychology. Potential topics include perception, action, human-technology interactions, ergonomics, task analysis, design of displays and controls, anthropometrics and the effects the environment on human performance. After taking this course, students should be able to: ¿ Define what human factors and ergonomics are and identify their applications. ¿ Explain the role of visual, tactile, olfactory, and audition systems in human factors design applications. ¿ Understand the measures used to evaluate usability, user experience, and mental workload. ¿ Describe the major components of human information processing.
