EJ Jardas graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a B.S. in Psychology, where they discovered an interest in applications of machine learning to clinical psychology. They then completed a research fellowship at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in the Department of Bioethics, where their work focused on the ethics of AI in health and mental health care, before moving to the University of Pittsburgh. Their primary research interests involve leveraging technological advances like passive sensing, data mining, and machine learning to understand how dynamic socioenvironmental factors affect momentary mental health symptoms and can inform personalized treatments. They are also interested in making psychological algorithms more diverse, equitable, and fair.
