The Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences provides technical support services through the Machine and Electronics Instrument Shops. The shops are located in the basement of the Psychology building, provide a diverse range of expertise and services which include design, construction, and instrumentation or equipment repair.

Machine Instrument Services (MIS)

The machine shop designs, fabricates, installs, maintains, and repairs new or unique scientific laboratory devices, equipment, components, and precision instruments for research and teaching purposes. Machine shop personnel will consult with equipment end-users regarding design material selection and application. Personnel can read and interpret blueprints, hand-drawn sketches, or take verbal instruction for project requests. Machinists measure to desired degree of accuracy; set up and operate precision tools to produce components and instruments. May provide oversight and guidance to less experienced staff if desired.

Electronics Instrument Services (EIS)

The electronics shop designs and constructs electronics systems in support of research experiments (such as intricate analog and digital circuitries); consults with faculty, staff, and students on problems associated with design and construction of research instrumentation as well as research systems programming. Repairs, tests, and adjusts instrumentation to ensure optimal working order, including performing high-level repairs with extended reversed engineering.
