I have two primary research areas. The first is behavior genetics, where I study samples of twins and their families in order to understand the origins of adolescent behavior problems and adult outcomes such as alcohol abuse. The focus of this work is on the processes linking genes and environments in these developmental outcomes. My second research area concerns cognitive processing as it relates to clinical problems such as alcohol abuse, sexual aggression, and eating disorders. In this research I apply quantitative performance models as a way of understanding the role of cognitive processing in judgment, learning, and impulse control.
