I am a second-year graduate student studying under the direction of Dr. Andrea Hohmann. I am mainly interested in the conjunction between pain and addiction, and how we can find opioid alternatives for treatment in various pain models. I focus on pharmacological manipulations of the endogenous cannabinoid system within our bodies to find non-addictive pain treatment options that will have minimal side effects. Through finding non-addictive pain treatment, we may be able to reduce opioid prescriptions in a clinical setting- an ongoing perpetuator of opioid abuse disorder. Through my research, I hope to improve quality of life of pain patients by reducing pain and negative affective states associated with pain, and reduce both opioid prescription and abuse through offering safe and efficacious alternatives to pain management.
